After a fire left this ballroom in shambles, I went to the drawing board with the objective of retaining as much of the original millwork decoration and classical feel of the space while brightening with neutrals to keep up with the demands of a blank backdrop for customizable weddings and other special events.
I knew this was another opportunity to incorporate customizable effects lighting using built in floor LEDs, and design a new ceiling in the section of the room for dancing called “la ronde”. As the massive chandelier was too low for the space before the fire, even though I had the chandeliers successfully refurbished in the rest of the ballroom, I decided to maximize the height in the ceiling and create a cascading ring of individually controlled color coves and a recessed Dome.
I selected moldings that resonated with other motifs in the room such as acanthus leaf to make the coves look as though they were an original part of the architecture.
